Vibrant double flowers with quirky, flat-faced yellow and blue crinkled petals speckled with a golden eye. 'Frizzle Sizzle Yellow Blue Swirl' is a compact evergreen perennial, most commonly grown as a show-stopping annual. Happy in baskets, borders, containers and window boxes, the sweetly scented flowers can be added to salads as an edible or decorative garnish.

Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery alternative), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

  • Garden care:
Jumbo seedlings should be potted up and grown on for a few weeks in a frost-free spot - an unheated greenhouse or bright windowsill would be ideal. Larger, pot-grown plants can be planted straight out providing the soil or compost is neither waterlogged or frozen. Keep well watered, and feed with a good, high potash fertiliser (such as Tomorite) on a regular basis. Pinching off the spent flowers will encourage more to form. Protect young plants from slug damage using environmentally friendly slug pellets or beer traps.

  • Sowing instructions:
Late winter, spring and autumn sowings can be done in a cold frame, into trays of good seed compost and gradually hardened off before planting out. Alternatively sow directly into a well-prepared seed bed in late spring to early summer, or in autumn. Gently thin the seedlings out to 15cm apart when they are large enough to handle.

  • Sow: February to May or August to September (under glass), or April to July or September to October (direct)
