Standing upright, this bushy beauty dons heart-shaped leaves that provide an elegant backdrop to conical panicles of slightly fragrant flowers in late spring. As May turns to June, the air is filled with the sweet scent of these pale creamy-yellow blooms, attracting a flurry of wildlife, from buzzing bees to graceful butterflies.
In mid-summer remove the faded flower heads carefully using secateurs to avoid damaging the young shoots. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in early spring.
