This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: June to July
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Glorious, almost fluorescent yellow foliage, that turns yellow-green in summer, then orange-yellow in autumn, is accompanied by clusters of fragrant white flowers in late spring and early summer. A vigorous, broadly columnar tree (often with thorny shoots), it makes an excellent specimen for a sunny, sheltered garden.

  • Garden care: Shelter from strong winds. On established trees pruning is best kept to a minimum as large pruning cuts often don't heal well. Any necessary pruning should be tackled in mid- to late summer. Prone to suckering, it's best to avoid disturbing the roots as much as possible, and any suckers that do appear should be removed as soon as possible.
  • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin irritant
