Native to southern China and Taiwan, this attractive evergreen tree has glossy, mid-green foliage divided into many leaflets. Tolerant of the warm, dry air of heated homes, this loose canopied, woody perennial has become a popular houseplant in recent years.
Use peat-free potting compost and incorporate sand or perlite for good drainage. Ensure a warm environment, refrain from relocating plants or introducing sudden environmental changes to minmise leaf drop. Encourage branching in young plants by pinching out shoot tips, while older plants can be trimmed to preserve their shape. Be careful not to overwater, as excessive moisture may make them vulnerable to root rot.
