This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: Moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: Average
  • Flowering period: May to July
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy

A remarkable mock orange shrub celebrated for its clouds of white blossoms and captivating summer fragrance. Unlike other Philadelphus varieties, this one blooms on both the previous year's growth and new growth, extending the flowering season. Its compact, densely branched form showcases large, sterile, and strongly scented flowers. This revolutionary habit ensures a profusion of double-petalled, star-shaped blooms, some reaching up to 8cm (3in) in diameter, emitting a delectable perfume from May to July. What sets 'Pearls of Perfume' apart is its smaller, columnar structure, making it ideal for courtyard gardens, balconies, and patios, thriving in containers or in open ground. Notably, it produces blooms along all branches, rather than just at the tips, making it perfect for cutting and adding to vases and floral arrangements.

  • Garden care:
Mulch around the roots in spring with a deep layer of well-rotted garden compost or manure. Prune in late summer, immediately after flowering, removing one in four of the older stems to ground level.
