This herb dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: humus-rich, moisture retentive soil
  • Rate of growth: fast
  • Flowering period: July to August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A truly versatile peppermint, with deep green, purple-flushed leaves and pollinator-attracting mauve flowers in summer. ‘After Eight’ can be enjoyed as a summer drink or cocktail ‘livener’, a soothing herb tea or sprinkled on your spuds for a perkier taste!

  • Garden care: When plants have finished flowering in summer, cut flowered shoots back to 5cm (2in) above the surface of the compost. Mint is vigorous in the garden so so restrict excessive growth by by planting it in a large pot and keeping it well watered.
