This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: July
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

  • This tree has a broadly columnar shape with erect branches that support lobed, apple-green leaves which transform into golden and amber hues during autumn. In summer, when mature, it produces pale green flowers with orange markings at the base of each petal. This upright cultivar is ideal for locations with limited space or where an ornamental avenue is desired. Although it is not as vigorous as the species, it maintains a tight, narrow form. Furthermore, it features fewer of the species' distinctive tulip-shaped flowers, instead emphasising the stunning shape and colour of its foliage.

  • Garden care: When planting, incorporate lots of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and stake firmly. Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter.
  • CAUTION toxic if eaten/skin & eye irritant
