This tree is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun to partial shade
  • Soil: moist but well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A magnificent medium to large-sized tree specimen tree with a strong pyramidal habit and fissured bark. Like all 'Sweet Gum' trees, 'Thea' is grown for its breathtaking autumn colours. The bright green summer ‘maple-like’ foliage turns to brilliant shades of crimson, scarlet and purple creating a dramatic end to the growing season.

  • Garden care: When planting, incorporate lots of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and stake firmly. Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. For best autumn colours, choose a position in full sun.
