  • Depth of water: 0-15cm
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: May to July
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

‘Snowdrift’ is a clump-forming Japanese water iris bearing delightful, white flowers with a narrow pale lilac throat, which rise from broad, strap-like leaves from May to July. Enjoying a slightly acidic soil enriched with well-rotted organic matter, it is happiest in damp soils, making it ideal for drifts around the margins of ponds, lakes, streams and bog-gardens with other moisture-loving plants such as primulas, ferns, and forget-me-nots.

  • Garden care: To encourage healthy growth of roots, foliage and flowers, feed with a general-purpose or slow-release aquatic fertiliser. Remove yellow or brown leaves to keep the plant healthy and the water clean. Cut water iris to just above the water line in autumn if you live in a cooler part of the country.
  • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten
