A compact, short-lived perennial, 'Red Elf' emerges with tidy mounds of finely cut mid-green foliage that maintains its fresh appearance throughout the season. Bursting into bloom from early summer to autumn, this cultivar flaunts abundant deep burgundy red flowers complemented by vibrant golden centres, displaying a slight creamy-white frosting at the petal tips. Withstanding sun and heat without fading, these elegant blooms gracefully rise above the foliage and do not need to be deadheaded to keep producing marvellous, insect attracting flowers that are excellent for long-lasting cut flower displays.
Perfect for potting up and growing on, these perennial rooted cuttings would benefit from some cold protection during the earlier parts of the year before planting out after the last frosts are forecast. The flowers are sterile so require no deadheading. Water well during hot, dry spells. Cut the faded flower-stems back down to ground level in autumn and compost.
