This climber is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: Moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil
  • Rate of growth: Fast
  • Flowering period: April to May
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy

This deciduous climber charms in mid- to late spring with a flourish of delicate, semi-double flowers featuring pale pink sepals artfully flushed and veined in hues of deeper pink. Creamy stamens peek out from the centre which develop into attractive, fluffy silver seed heads on gently arching stems. A second flush of the charming blossoms may appear in summer, extending the floral display. The soft pink tones and nodding form give ’Rosy O’Grady’ a romantic old-fashioned appeal perfect for cottage gardens or adorning garden structures.

  • Garden care:
Clematis need their roots to be kept cool and moist, so plant the base of these clematis in light shade or provide shading with other plants or a dressing of pebbles. No routine pruning is necessary. If the spread of the plant needs to be restricted prune immediately after flowering, cutting back overlong shoots to healthy buds. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.
    • Humans: Skin irritant; Pets: Harmful if eaten
