Clematis patens 'Manshuu Ki'
early large flowered clematis (group 2) (syn. Wada's Primrose)
This climber is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.
- Position: Full sun
- Soil:Moderately fertile, well-drained, neutral soil
- Rate of growth: Average to fast
- Flowering period:May to June and August to September

Radiating an exquisite fragrance reminiscent of satsuma oranges, ‘Manshuu Ki’ enchants with its fragrant, pale primrose-yellow blooms in early summer, each embellished with a vibrant yellow centre. This compact, deciduous climber showcases pale green leaves alongside large, scented single flowers that span up to 18cm (7in) across. The creamy-yellow or pale yellow-green petals deepen in hue along their central ridged band, adorned with creamy-yellow stamens, offering an alluring display in late spring to early summer and often repeating in late summer. Its enduring shiny, spherical seed heads follow the blossoms, making it an ideal choice for climbing roses, shrubs, or trees, although it thrives best in partial shade to prevent the delicate petals from scorching under intense sunlight.
- Humans: Skin irritant; Pets: Harmful if eaten
