This climber is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: Fast
  • Flowering period: May to July and August to September
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A compact deciduous clematis, adorned with light green leaves bearing large, striking magenta-pink flowers boasting wavy edges. These eye-catching blooms with a fringed white cerise eye emerge along the stems from late spring to late summer, ensuring a continuous display of vibrant colour from the plant's base to its top. Specially bred to thrive in containers on terraces, 'Daiyu' offers an extended and repeat flowering period from May to October, despite being a late flowering group 3 member, and is ideal for adding beauty to patios and disguising the lower areas of taller shrubs like roses or other Clematis cultivars.

  • Garden care:
Clematis need their roots to be kept cool and moist, so plant the base of these climbers in light shade or provide shading with other plants or a dressing of pebbles. In early spring cut back the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
    • Humans: Skin irritant; Pets: Harmful if eaten
