A mid-sized evergreen shrub prized for its unique striped formal double blooms. This variety bears elegant 12cm (7in) wide flowers featuring overlapping pure white petals irregularly streaked and flecked with cerise pink that are heightened by the lush dark green foliage. 'Lavinia Maggi' has an upright growth habit but can occasionally produce solid white or pink blooms, adding to its charm. For gardens needing winter interest, this camellia provides an intriguing interplay of colour and form to brighten acid soil borders in partial shade.

  • Garden care:
To prevent damage to the emerging buds and flowers protect from cold, dry winds and early morning sun. Water established plants in dry weather to prevent bud drop. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser in mid-spring and again in June. Top-dress annually with shredded bark or well-rotted leaf mould. After flowering lightly trim or prune any branches that spoil the appearance of the plant.
