Sorbus aucuparia 'Beissneri'

mountain ash, Rowan ( syn. Sorbus moravica 'Laciniata' )

Product Image
A wonderfully compact upright-growing form of our British native rowan with white springtime flowers, yellow-green fern-like leaves and bright red shoots. It is perfect for those who want to enjoy the splendour of a rowan, but have a confined space to do so. Renowned for its stunning autumn colours and heavy clusters of bright orange-red berries, 'Beissneri' provides excellent food for hungry birds. It's hardiness and ability to thrive in almost any soil make it an easy, quick option for those after a ornamental focal piece sooner, rather than later.

How to care for Sorbus aucuparia Beissneri:

Bare root plants should be planted out as soon as they arrive. If this is not possible, they can be heeled in temporarily (covering their roots with soil) or potted up. Before planting, soak the rootball in a bucket of water for half an hour and make sure to incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole. Stake firmly in exposed positions and keep the base of the tree weed free. Fertilise at the beginning of each year and water regularly during hot, dry spells. Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. A rabbit or deer guard will protect against pest damage. Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter.
