Pittosporum tenuifolium Bannow Bay ('Breebay') (PBR)

pittosporum

Product Image
A compact, mound-forming evergreen with striking foliage that shifts colour through the seasons. New leaves emerge pale green with creamy margins before deepening to pink in summer, then transforming to rich burgundy in winter.

This well-branched shrub provides year-round interest and makes an excellent choice for borders, containers, or as an informal hedge. Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Bannow Bay' thrives in well-drained soil and enjoys a sunny or partially shaded spot. Small, dark purple flowers may appear in late spring, adding further appeal.

Drought-tolerant once established, it requires minimal maintenance beyond occasional pruning to maintain shape.

How to care for Pittosporum tenuifolium Bannow Bay ('Breebay') (PBR):

Plant in well-drained soil in a sheltered position with full sun or partial shade. Pittosporum thrives in neutral to slightly acidic soil and benefits from protection against cold winds and severe frosts, particularly in colder regions.

Water regularly during the first year to help establish strong roots, then reduce watering once settled, as mature plants are drought-tolerant. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage healthy growth.

Requires minimal pruning—lightly trim in mid-spring to thin or shape if needed. Mulch annually with well-rotted compost or manure to retain moisture and improve soil quality. In colder areas, consider protecting young plants with fleece during harsh winters.
