Paulownia tomentosa

foxglove tree ( syn. Paulownia imperialis )

Fragrant, foxglove-like, pinkish-lilac flowers appear on bare stems in May, followed by large, heart-shaped, bright green leaves. This spectacular deciduous tree looks lovely set in the middle of a large, sunny lawn. A highly recommended plant, it flowers best in areas with long, hot summers, and copes well with urban pollution - although it may take several years to establish before flowering.
