A native aquatic perennial, Menyanthes trifoliata forms creeping mats of vibrant green leaves hovering just above the water's surface with dainty, star-shaped flowers, tinged with pink at the tips, emerging in late spring. Thriving in shallow waters up to 30cm (12in) deep, it provides nectar and pollen for bees and the many other types of pollinating insects.
How to care for Menyanthes trifoliata:
These plants are potted up (using a suitable aquatic compost) into aquatic pots. These pots are made of a fine mesh, which allows water to circulate through the compost, providing the plants with both oxygen and nutrients. If you are using them as a aquatic plant, they can be planted into neutral to acidic soil (for best results) up to a water covering of 30cm (12") deep. They will also grow in damp soil at the edges of ponds providing they are not allowed to dry out.
