This architectural cultivar brings vertical elegance to damp borders, bog gardens, and pond edges. Throughout summer and early autumn, tall spikes adorned with distinctive deep violet tubular blooms grace the dark green foliage, occasionally tinged with red. Flourishing in rich, consistently moist soil, this cardinal flower stands out, and is resilient in chilly winters, outlasting the cold better than its counterparts making 'Vedrariensis' suitable for colder regions in the UK.
How to care for Lobelia × speciosa Vedrariensis:
Plant out in reliably moist or boggy soil, or pot up into a pond basket and place at the margins of a pond in shallow water no deeper than 5cm (2"). A low maintenance plant, cut back foliage to ground/water level at the end of the year. Divide congested clumps in early spring every few years. Protect the crown of the plant during winter with a thick, dry mulch.
