Grow your own Lion’s Mane Mushrooms with our indoor, ready to grow kit. Our kits give you all you need to grow and harvest your own crop of edible fungi between 21-35 days of opening. Perfect as gifts for adventurous cooks and fungi foragers!
This kit will need to be chilled in a fridge when you receive it, if you are not intending to grow straight away. Your kit will be fine out of the fridge for a day or two if gifting or while in transit.
Our Lion’s Mane Mushroom Kit is a great introduction to growing this incredible mushroom. One of the great medicinal mushrooms known for its health benefits it also has an amazing flavour.
This kit takes a little more time, watering and attention than our oyster mushroom kits, but don’t let this put you off, it is still very much considered a beginner level to grow. Keep your kit in a light and airy spot where you’ll remember to mist it a couple of times per day and watch it grow. These mushrooms don’t need to be grown in the dark – kept indoors, in a kitchen is the perfect environment – giving them the right light and temperature to thrive.
Expect to harvest at least 200-250g of fresh mushrooms over a couple of harvests. These are culinary mushrooms and have no known hallucinogenic properties.
For best results, your kit will need to be opened within 3 days of receipt. Alternatively, they can be stored in the fridge but must be used within one month. A full set of instructions can be found inside your kit bag. All paper and card can be recycled with your standard card recycling. The plastic bag can be cleaned and recycled with your soft plastic recycling. The outer bag and substrate block can be composted or disposed of along with your normal food waste.

How to care for Lion's mane mushrooms:
You can store your Lion’s Mane Mushroom kit in the fridge should you need to wait to grow, but open within three weeks. Ideal growing temperature parameters are 17-22°C (62-72°F). Lower temperatures can lead to slower growth and higher temps can lead to the substrate and mushrooms drying out, if not sufficiently watered during the day and growing period.
Open your kits following the instructions with clean scissors. Do not carve, dig or scratch into substrate surface, and do not remove or peel back the opening of the grow bag. This opening will allow enough air and water into the substrate to initiate fruiting.
You need to spray a mist of water across the top of your grow kit 1-2 times a day, more often in hot weather. Try not to over water your kit, but try to keep the surface of the substrate damp and humid but not wet.
Once your mushroom appears, do not spray water directly onto the mushroom as this can cause discolouration. Instead spray a fine mist over the top of your kit from a height to maintain humidity.
Your kit will need to be grown in natural light but away from direct sunlight, drafts, or cool breezes. Occasionally your new mushroom will appear a blush pink colour - this is a sign of new growth and perfectly normal. If your mushroom begins to turn yellow or brown this could be a sign it’s near a draft or has gotten too wet. If it begins to dry out it’s likely to be over mature and can be harvested.
Lion’s Mane Mushrooms have finished growing when they stop increasing in size and the spines/teeth have grown longer and thicker. Pick your mushroom when the spines reach about 1cm in length and the texture of the mushroom feels spongy when squeezed gently. To harvest, simply grab the mushroom, twist, and pull it off your kit. Store your harvested mushroom in the fridge for up to 5 days, ideally in a brown paper bag.

What's included:
Our complete mushroom kit contains everything required and is the perfect all-inclusive gift option: A fully colonised substrate block, a full set of growing instruction and growing guidance, outer bag and label.
Approx. weight: 1kg
Dimensions: 11x12x22cm
Our larger ‘no frills’ kit contains: approx. 2.5kg of pre-inoculated specialist substrate in a recyclable bag, each kit will grow approx. 600g of fresh mushrooms over 1-2 harvests. Your kit will need misting during its growing phase, so if you don't have one already, please check out our excellent misters.
Our Log Dowel Growing Kit is designed for outdoor use for those wishing to grow naturally using their own cut (unseasoned) logs with no signs of damage or other fungal growth, and contains: 30 inoculated timber dowels inside a sterilized plastic grow bag with filter patch, wax, sponge applicator, full set of growing instructions, postage box and branded sleeve. We advise using fresh or recently felled (up to 8 weeks) hardwood logs up to 50cm in length (10-20cm in diameter) such as alder, oak, cherry, beech, birch or chestnut. We recommend avoiding sycamore, soft woods and conifers. Please note that holes will need to be pre-drilled to accommodate the dowels (we recommend an 8.5mm drill bit). Using the dowel method, we deliberately introduce our mushroom mycelium into the body of freshly felled timber, making sure it stands the best chance of success. You should expect to see your first mushrooms from 18 months to 2 years after your logs have been inoculated. Once fruiting, you could be harvesting fresh mushrooms for approximately 3 years. Please note: It is not recommended to mix different strains of mushroom dowels within one log. If want to grow a variety of mushrooms, we advise allocating only one type per log.
