Iris 'Benton Diedre'

bearded iris

Product Image
This vigorous iris awakens the garden with vibrant two-toned blooms of striking elegance. Glaucous sword-shaped leaves provide the perfect verdant backdrop for each of the ruffled flowers, which reveal delicately etched ivory falls, dramatically contrasted by deep rose standards in rich wine shades. Fuchsia veining adorns the fall edges in watercolour fashion, and golden beards add a final flourish, lending more than a hint of citrus. Tough yet tantalising, ‘Benton Diedre’ will return to glamorize your borders and cut flower vases year after year.

How to care for Iris Benton Diedre:

Plant shallowly with the upper part of the rhizome sitting on the surface of the soil, incorporating a low nitrogen fertiliser in the planting hole. After planting remove the upper-most third of the leaves to protect against wind-rock. In exposed areas stake with bamboo canes in early spring. Remove the stems after flowering from the base as this will concentrate the plant's energy into producing new rhizomes. Divide and replant about every three years.
