How to care for Ilex crenata Dark Green ('Icoprins11') (PBR):
Choose a spot with well-drained, fertile soil in full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole slightly wider than the root ball and mix in plenty of organic matter to improve moisture retention and nutrient availability.
If planting as a hedge, space your plants about 20-30cm apart to allow for good air circulation and proper shaping, and to ensure good soil conatct around each plant. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the roots.
Plants grown as free-standing specimens require minimal pruning - remove diseased or misplaced branches in spring. Trim plants grown as formal hedges in late summer.
After pruning, apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
