Forming a dense mound of evergreen foliage, this compact, grey-green hebe also produces dense sprays of white summer flowers. An undemanding and easy to grow shrub, ‘Blue Star’ is ideal for a sunny patio and is also compact enough for low-maintenance window boxes. Alternatively, add it to the rockery, or use it to fill in gaps at the front of the border.
How to care for Veronica Blue Star ('Vergeer 1') (PBR):
Hebes need free-draining soil, so before planting, dig in lots of organic matter to improve the soil condition and drainage. Water newly planted hebes regularly for the first season, especially in warm, dry weather. Remove spent flowers to encourage a longer flowering period and prune to shape after flowering, removing misplaced or frost damaged branches in late spring. This plant may need protection from hard frosts and cold, drying winds by covering them with horticultural fleece, and apply mulch around the base of the plant to protect the roots from cold temperatures.
