Fontinalis antipyretica

water moss

Product Image
Fontinalis antipyretica forms dense mats in aquatic environments, providing refuge for fish eggs and fry. Preferring cool, shaded areas, it attaches itself to submerged rocks and substrates at depths of 20 to 90cm (8-26"). This British native moss is evergreen and slow-growing, serving as an oxygenating plant for ponds and aquaria. Its fine, dark green stems create healthy underwater ecosystems and offer cover for aquatic wildlife, making it a valuable addition to water gardens.

How to care for Fontinalis antipyretica:

Supplied in weighted bunches for you to drop into your pond to choose its own location (it will grow on submerged rocks or the pond's substrate) or you can plant in place where you want it to grow. No maintenance required. Best grown in water with a neutral to acidic pH. Aquatics can appear a little flaccid after their travel to you but will regenerate once submerged in water.
