Campanula portenschlagiana

Dalmatian bellflower

Product Image
Spreading mounds of deep purple, funnel-shaped flowers appear in July and August with heart-shaped to kidney-shaped, mid-green leaves that are retained all year. These low-growing Dalmatian bellflowers look wonderful cascading over a sunny, well-drained rock garden or raised bed, used as edging or tucked in between paving stones or a dry-stone wall.

Campanula portenschlagiana is vigorous, so it's best planted away from smaller, less competitive plants.

How to care for Campanula portenschlagiana:

When planting Dalmatian bellflower in beds and borders, mix some well-rotted organic matter with the excavated soil and firm around the plant. Choose a loam-based compost if growing in pots or containers. Water in well and keep watered during the growing season.

Fertilise in spring and deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming. Protect the tender foliage from slug damage using environmentally friendly slug solutions.
