  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to September
  • Hardiness: half hardy (may need winter protection)

A wonderfully wild and vibrant collection of stunning dahlias including the popular two tone orange of 'French Cancan', the ruffled, near-black centred red of 'Rip City', and the prolific, luminous magenta of 'Ambition'. Group together for a bold late season pop of colour, indoors or out.

In each collection you will receive one tuber of each of the following:

  • Dahlia 'Rip City': A stunning cactus dahlia with red-black flowers and a black heart. The fully double flowers have long, narrow, pointed petals that recurve for more than half their length and have a ruffled appearance. The blooms are produced from July until the first frosts, and they look wonderful when planted in bold groups in a sunny, sheltered border. Grows to 150cm.

  • Dahlia 'Ambition': This stunning cactus dahlia is a prolific bloomer, which produces masses of magenta-purple flowers, each up to 15cm across, for a long period from midsummer. When in flower it will grab centre stage with its jaw-dropping display. It is particularly effective amongst other purple-toned, summer flowers, or when potted up on a sunny patio. Grows to 90cm.

  • Dahlia 'French Cancan': A loose and flouncy dahlia with two-tone orange flowers, 'French Cancan' is a gorgeous bloomer with light tangerine, slightly twisted petals and a deeper, warmer underside of blood-red orange. Fabulous for cutting, this fanciful and playful tuberous perennial is sure to bring a smile to your face, whether in bloom in the garden or in a vase. Grows to 120cm.

  • Garden care:
Dahlia tubers can be planted outside after frost, or started off in pots under glass in late winter to early spring. Plant them horizontally approximately 12cm deep, making sure the ‘eyes’ are uppermost. Allow enough room between each tuber so the plants can grow and spread to their full size without being overcrowded. While in growth, provide a high-nitrogen liquid feed each week in June, then a high-potash fertiliser each week from July to September. Stake with canes or brushwood if it becomes necessary. In mild areas, leave them in situ over winter, but protect the crown with a generous layer of dry mulch. In colder areas, carefully lift and clean the tubers once the first frosts have blackened the foliage and allow them to dry naturally indoors. Then place the dry tubers in a shallow tray, just covered with slightly moist potting compost, sand or vermiculite and store in a frost-free place until planting out again.
