Syringa meyeri Flowerfesta Purple ('Anny200809') (PBR)(Flowerfesta Series)
repeat flowering dwarf lilac
This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.
- Position: full sun
- Soil: fertile, humus-rich, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: April to May, then intermittently until October
- Hardiness: fully hardy
Producing larger than average (in comparison to other Syringa meyeri forms) sprays of sweetly scented flowers, which usually appear repeatedly from mid-spring to mid-autumn, Flowerfesta Purple really lives up to its name. It's relatively compact too, so will happily flourish in a larger pot - and given its showy nature, it definitely merits a spot in the garden. - Garden care: In mid-summer remove the faded flower heads carefully using secateurs to avoid damaging the young shoots. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in early spring.
