      • Position: full sun
      • Soil: moderatley fertile, moist but well-drained soil
      • Rate of growth: average
      • Flowering period: June to August
      • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

Offering dazzling colour over a long period from late summer, these sun-loving plants make wonderful additions to the cottage garden or mixed border, where they will help extend the season of interest well into autumn.

In the collection you will receive once of each of the following varieties. Supplied in 9cm pots.

        Salvia × jamensis 'Nachtvlinder'
Velvet-like plum-purple petals form hooded flowers over a long period in summer and autumn. Fully hardy in freely draining soils, this bushy shrub will become drought tolerant once established. Grows to 75cm tall.

        Salvia 'Royal Bumble'
Vibrant red flowers clothe the purple-flushed stems for several months from early summer putting on an eye-catching display in the border. Tolerant of coastal conditions and lightly dappled shade. Grows to 60cm tall.

        Salvia 'Blue Note' (PBR)
Weave these through your border and you will have lashings of intense blue flowers, which appear in open spires throughout the summer. They look stunning when planted against a silver backdrop, or team them with virtually any shade of pink, or go bold and team with maroon, plum and and strong purples. Grows to 60cm tall.

      • Garden care: To prolong flowering remove the flower spikes as soon they start to fade. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring. Protect from excessive cold and waterlogged soils.
