These long, slim Italian-bred sweet peppers are the gourmet's choice, looking elegantly beautiful on the plant as they ripen from green through to scarlet with a mild and juicy flavour. The vigorous, productive plants can be grown in pots on a sunny patio for green peppers, but you'll need the extra warmth of a greenhouse to turn them red.

  • Growing instructions: Sow in early spring in pots in a heated propagator or on a sunny windowsill and pot on individually, finally planting out into containers or in the greenhouse borders once plants are about 15cm tall. Support with canes as they mature and feed fortnightly with liquid tomato feed once flowers appear. When the weather starts cooling in autumn, cut plants off at the stem and hang them upside down somewhere warm like a conservatory, so fruit can continue to ripen.

  • Sow: February to April

  • Harvest: August to September
