A sultry blend of deep plums and purples, which have been tempered by a warm apricot create this sumptuous collection, which will add real drama to borders and pots. Plant them deeply in autumn in clusters or drifts throughout the border where they will receive lots of sun and protection from strong winds. When in growth, water when necessary and apply a balanced liquid fertiliser at weekly intervals. Dead-head after the flowers have faded, then allow the foliage to die right back before lifting the bulbs and storing them dry in a cool greenhouse throughout the summer.

Each collection contains bulbs as listed below.

    Tulipa 'Jan Reus'
One of the deepest red-flowering tulips, which sit on darkly stained stems. This mid season tulip with its dramatic colouring is a very striking addition to the garden. Plant it in clumps at the front of a border or straight into pots where they can be moved around when they are in flower. Grows to 50cm tall. Supplied as 10 bulbs.

    Tulipa 'Apricot Impression'
Warm pink petals, which are flamed with a soft tangerine, form larger than average goblet - shaped flowers that top the tall stems. A Darwin Hybrid Group tulip, it’s ideal for bedding schemes and stands up better than most in poor weather conditions. Grows to 55cm tall. Supplied as 10 bulbs.

    Tulipa 'National Velvet'
Deep burgundy red, velvety blooms that seem to glow like burning coals in the morning sun, sit on top of tall, sturdy stems late in the season. Their rich colouring blends well with deep purples and near blacks or liven them up with oranges and reds. Grows to 50cm tall. Supplied as 10 bulbs.

    Tulipa 'Cafe Noir'
Brooding near-black flowers top the stout stems of this single late tulip. Excellent in late spring and early summer bedding schemes, its rich chocolate-red colouring looks great as a contrast to creamy whites and yellows, or toned with soft pinks. Grows to 50cm tall. Supplied as 5 bulbs.

  • Garden care: From August to November plant the bulbs 10-15cm deep and 10-15cm apart in a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil. While actively growing, keep them moderately well watered and remove the flowers after they have faded. At that stage a balanced liquid fertiliser can be applied each week for 4 weeks before they die down.

  • Harmful if eaten/may cause skin allergy
