Found growing in scrub, woodland, and grassy and rocky sites throughout large parts of Europe and Western Asia, these hardy, rhizomatous perennials perennials will thrive on soils with a chalk or limestone base where the pH is alkaline or neutral. Tough and tolerant, they will also cope with a wide range of fertile, humus-rich soils provided they are not too dry or waterlogged. They are happy in partial or lightly dappled shade, and will tolerate full sun, however they will need watering regularly if grown in a bright spot. This collection includes some unusual and very beautiful cultivars that will provide valuable colour from mid-winter to mid-spring in partially shaded areas of the garden. All parts of the plant are toxic if eaten and contact with the foliage may irritate the skin. Suppllied in 5cm plugs.

In each collection you will receive 1 plant of each of the following varieties:

  • Helleborus 'Double Ellen White':
  • White, somewhat pointed-tipped petals, which are lightly freckled with deep maroon, surround a boss of creamy white stamens, forming large blooms that are carried on stout, upright stems. Ideal for adding light to a partially shaded border. Height: 35cm

  • Helleborus 'Double Ellen Purple':
  • A new introduction with deepest purple petals (the outermost often with a smattering of lighter speckles), surround the spider-like creamy yellow centre. Their brooding colouring adds depth to the planting scheme when mixed with softer shades of pink and lilac. Height: 35cm

  • Helleborus 'Double Ellen Pink Spotted':
  • Heavily spotted, soft pink flowers make these perennials a fine addition to winter-themed containers, especially when under-planted with early spring flowering bulbs. Tough and resilient, they are also ideal for adding interest to a partially shaded border. Height: 45cm
  • Harmful if eaten/skin irritant
