Geum 'Scarlet Tempest' (PBR)
- Position: full sun
- Soil: well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: fast-growing
- Flowering period: March to September
- Hardiness: fully hardy
This cracking new geum wowed the judges at the RHS Cheslea Plant of the Year 2016 competition, where it picked up second place. It is a sterile hybrid, so produces lots of larger than average apricot-flushed reddish flowers over an impressively long period. It's first flush starts in mid-spring, after which the plant usually takes a short break before going on to flower uninterupted into the autumn. Bred by Elizabeth MacGregor (who also gave us Anemone Wild Swan) in Scotland, this new Geum is a cross between G. 'Beech House Apricot' and G. chiloense 'Red Dragon'.
- Garden care: To prolong flowering, deadhead regularly. Lift and divide large clumps in early spring or late autumn.
