Gaura lindheimeri Baby Butterfly Dark Pink ('URIBLBP') (PBR)
- Position: full sun
- Soil: fertile, moist, but well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: fast-growing
- Flowering period: May to September
- Hardiness: fully hardy
The compact habit of this recent introduction makes it really stand out from the others. Like the others, it still produces masses of butterfly-like flowers over an exceptionally long time, and it still creates a softly swaying haze of colour (the flowers are a rich pink), but it's low-growing, so perfect for front of border positions or pots. It looks equally at home in an informal cottage-style garden, or woven between the shorter ornamental grasses. It will also become drought tolerant once established and will thrive in a sunny spot.
- Garden care: Resist the temptation to cut back after the plant has flowered, as it takes on beautiful autumn tints, particularly in cold weather. Cut back and divide large colonies in spring.
