Fatsia japonica 'Spider's Web'

Japanese aralia

  • Position: partial shade
  • Soil: moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: September to October
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)

This new fatsia is primarily grown for its handsome foliage, which looks as though it has been variously been dusted with icing sugar. It makes a wonderful specimen, particularly when planted near white-flowering plants that complement the leaf variegations. It can also be used to help add light and colour to areas of lightly dappled shade.

  • Garden care: Prune lightly in mid to late spring, trimming shoots that spoil the symmetry. Protect plants from cold, drying winds.
